The true reason for the schism was not the pride of Rome, whose primacy had not been disputed by anyone, but the rise of the New Rome with its new pagan principle of primacy — the imperial might.
Thank you indeed, again, Maxim, for your very detailed and learned study of this vital issue. Your mention of 2 languages, Greek and Latin, used at the Council, points to a very important outcome with the collapse of the Western Empire in 476 AD. As the knowledge of Greek diminished in the West, knowledge of Latin became so rare in the East, that later key figures in Church and Empire in the Imperial City, came to regard Latin as "a barborous Scythian tongue". This mutual misunderstanding, as well as jealousy of "Old Rome" by careerist Greek clerics played a significant part in the 1054 Schism.
My first comment here is to recommend two extremely good historical studies, both of which were produced by priests who completed their doctoral studies under the supervision of Professor Josef Ratzinger in the late 1960s/early 1970s:
Apostolikos Thronos: Rival Accounts of Roman Primacy in Eusebius and Athanasius

The Church at Rome was built upon the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, not upon Nero.
